- : Hi All, Now I've been looking for a CD-Rom for my A4k and I have a two
- : options....
- :
- : 1. Get Tandem IDE & CD-Rom from Gasteiner 199
-
- Seems very expensive when the ide card costs about 69 quid from image data
- and a double speed drive about 40 quid.
-
- : 2. Get SCSI 2 Controller & REKO CD-Rom About 250 appx (possibly less)
-
- I bought a GVP HC8+ for my A4K and running a panasonic double speed mounted
- in the 5.25 bay. bit cramped but it works. Don't know if there are any SCSI 2
- controllers for the amiga. SCSI 2 is backward compatible with SCSI 1.
-
- : 3. SCSI 2 with a good size CD-Rom for A4k.
-
- Thought all CD roms where same size.
-
- : I mostly want to use the CD for Lightwave objects on different CDs and for playing
- : the odd Music CD
-
- no problems
-
- : Anybody got option 1, please tell me what you think of it ?
-
- Maybe someone will respond....
-
- : Anyone got an internal CD, I have heard that some CD-Roms don't fit properly in
- : the 5.25 Bay in the A4k. A friend of mine had one but it got very hot inside
- : and had to cut a hole in the back panel of his A4k with a BIG fan on it.
-
- Firstly, I think all CD roms have standard dimensions, that means too long.
- My panasonic sticks out about 5mm from the front, but it looks quite nice.
- Try getting a double speed scsi but make sure you check it out for compatibility.
- You don't need a fast CDrom drive because we don't rely on having to load large
- volumes of data like the PC owners.
-
- The reason the CDrom sticks out is because the power pack comes too far forward
- inside the box. The cables on the back of the CDrom will push up against it.
-
- inside my A4K, I got 2 IDE drives, (700Mb and 1.1Gb), 1.4Mb floppy, 68030/fpu at
- 50Mhz, 14Mb ram a GVP SCSI card, a Panasonic CDrom, and a Multiface III
- serial/parallel card. Dont seem to get very warm to me. BTW My A4k runs a BBS
- and is on 24Hrs a day!
-
- Hope this helps
